The Town of Harrisonville was platted in 1827 with a population of 16 families and as many houses. Battle Ground City was platted across the railroad tracks in 1848 when the Battle Ground Collegiate Institute was founded. In 1858 the two towns merged and were known as Battle Ground, Indiana.

 

On August 9th, 2008 the citizens of Battle Ground will celebrate its 150th Anniversary.

The events for the day will include:

 

Breakfast: 6 - 10 AM- Sausage and Pancakes, Biscuits and Gravy

Parade of Gardens: 9 - 12 AM This is a walking tour of 8 gardens, maps provided.

Parade: 12 Noon - Parade from North Main St. to Railroad St., ending at the Tippecanoe Battlefield

Music: 1 - 2 PM - Vintage Brass Citizens Band will play during the Ice Cream Social. Bring a picnic lunch for your family to enjoy while listening to the music.

Presentation Program: 2 PM - The program on stage will include several Indiana State Dignitaries receiving "Keys to the City" as well as presenting various honorariums.

The day will end with a play by the Battle Ground 4th Grade Students.

Other Activities Include:

Horse drawn carriage and trolley rides

Historical characters such as John Tipton, Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Luther Jewett, Rev. Benjamin Winans and Dr. H.D. Riddele roaming about and conversing with visitors.

The Masonic organizations of Kentucky and Indiana will re-dedicate the historical marker of Major Joseph Davies (Grand Master of Kentucky) who was slain in the Battle of Tippecanoe.
